HONOLULU (KHON2) — A father and son duo are solo rowing more than 2,400 nautical miles from California to Hawaii — and it’s all for a good cause.

Tim Crockett and his 18-year-old son, Harrison, hope to become “the first father and son team to row the Mid-Pacific route,” officials said.

But the journey isn’t just about breaking records. The pair also looks to raise awareness for veterans’ mental health.

The inspiration for their cause comes from the work Tim does at home in Atlanta, Ga. The ‘Row to Recovery’ where he works to support veterans struggling with mental health issues and PTSD.

In 2018, Tim Crockett rowed a solo 3,000 nautical miles to raise awareness and fundraise for veterans’ mental health charities in both the US and UK.

Officials said the meditative repetition of rowing mixed with the exercise makes it a powerful tool to combat stress, anxiety and depression.

Wednesday, June 16, marked day 44 at sea, which initially began on June 3 from San Francisco Bay in a 24-foot boat, unsupported.

Tim and Harrison will end their epic journey in Hilo and are expected to arrive on Sunday, July 20, at the Grand Naniloa Hotel.
