Andy Byron is the CEO of Astronomer, a data orchestration company valued at over £1.2 billion, joining the company in July 2023 as the third CEO of the year. He followed Scott Yara, a managing director at Sutter Hill Ventures in Palo Alto, and Joe Otto, who led the company from its inception in 2018 until January 2023.
Before stepping into his role as CEO, Byron spent time gaining insights into Astronomer while working as an entrepreneur-in-residence at Sutter Hill, one of Astronomer’s investors. Despite facing challenges such as two rounds of layoffs in January and April, Byron recognized significant potential in Astronomer. The company, originating from Cincinnati, had previously reached unicorn status and has secured nearly $290 million in venture capital, including a $213 million Series C round in March 2022.
Previously, Byron was the president of Lacework, a cybersecurity startup based in San Jose and another Sutter Hill portfolio, which secured a $1.3 billion funding round in 2021. He also held the position of Chief Revenue Officer at Cybereason from January 2017 to March 2019.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Byron worked at Fuze, formerly ThinkingPhones, as President and Chief Operating Officer from September 2015 to December 2016, as well as Chief Revenue Officer from June 2014 to August 2015. He was also the Vice President of Worldwide Sales at Aveksa, which was acquired by RSA Security – a Division of EMC, from January 2011 to May 2014. He had stints at BMC Software, BladeLogic, and VeriCenter.

‘Its the most rock n roll thing Coldplays ever done,’ marveled one observer as another chortled: ‘I bet Coldplay will create a new song in honor of the couple in question.’
‘Who did it better?’ vamped an Instagram user, comparing Byron holding Cabot to Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) holding Rose (Kate Winslet) from behind in the ‘I’m flying!’ scene from Titanic.

Byron heaped praise on Cabot in a November 2024 post about her appointment to the firm.

‘She is a proven leader at multiple growth-stage companies and her passion for fostering diverse, collaborative workplaces makes her a perfect fit for Astronomer.’
Byron became CEO in 2023, and the startup rapidly grew under his tenure including a reported 292% growth in revenue for its ‘Astro’ platform that year.
The startup has been valued at over $1 billion, and last week Byron appeared on New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) TV to celebrate the company.
Astronomer raised $93 million in its Series D round of financing, which Byron described as ‘a huge opportunity’ and ‘very exciting’ for the firm.
The concert where the pair were apparently caught out was part of Coldplay’s ongoing Music Of The Spheres World Tour.
They will next play Maddison, Nashville and Miami before heading back to the UK for a string of dates in August.
