Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov mentioned in a state television interview that President Vladimir Putin is prepared to pursue a peace settlement concerning Ukraine. However, he emphasized that the primary aim for Moscow remains to fulfill its objectives.
Peskov remarked that while the global community has become familiar with US President Donald Trump’s occasionally “harsh” rhetoric, it is important to note that Trump has reiterated his commitment to pursue a peace agreement in regards to Russia.
“President Putin has often expressed his wish for the Ukrainian settlement to reach a peaceful resolution swiftly. This is a complex and prolonged process that demands effort and is not easily achieved,” Peskov conveyed to state television journalist Pavel Zarubin.
“The main thing for us is to achieve our goals. Our goals are clear,” Peskov said.
On Monday, Trump announced a tougher stance on Russia, pledging a new wave of military aid to Ukraine, including Patriot missile defense systems.
He also gave Russia a 50-day deadline to agree to a ceasefire or face additional sanctions.
