Manchester United have unveiled a striking lilac away strip manufacturers Adidas claim draws inspiration from the club’s iconic 1992 jersey.

The ‘modern interpretation’ of the ‘iconic snowflake graphic’ features prominently on a strip that the Red Devils hope will be fondly remembered in years to come.

For now, United fans will be delighted to get their hands on the new strip that contains plum details, added through the club’s devil crest. The kit is rounded off with an overlapping EQT v-neck collar, plum shorts and white socks.

Fans of United’s men’s team are likely to get their first glimpse of their heroes wearing the kit during their preseason tour of the United States, where they will meet the likes of West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton.

The on-field version of the kit is available to purchase for £120 (€150), while the fan version is £85 (€100).

Adidas Senior Design Director, Juergen Rank, said: ‘For this season’s away jersey we wanted to reimagine one of the club’s most iconic graphics of the past, and reinterpret it for the modern day in a bold new way through an updated colour palette.

‘The rich purples work in harmony with the white base and metallic detailing, and we’re excited to see it on-pitch and in the stands this season.’

A nice, new shiny kit is almost always welcomed by supporters, notwithstanding the associated costs. but what is of upmost importance to the United faithful at the moment is their club’s activity in the transfer market.

On this front, United’s struggles have become a source of frustration. With every day that passes, the chances of Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo donning the new release appears less likely, with the club’s no closer to agreeing a deal despite weeks of talks.

The forward is the Red Devils’ No 1 target and personal terms are not an issue.

A compromise has appeared to be in sight after Brentford rejected two offers from United for the Cameroon international – one of £45million plus £10m in add-ons and a second of £55m plus £7.5m.

United thought that matching the £62.5m paid to Wolves for Cunha would be enough, but Brentford are understood to be demanding in excess of £65m with a larger initial payment.

Ruben Amorim is keen to boost his attacking options after a dismal campaign last season and the Portuguese in desperate need of improvement as he enters his first pre-season in charge.

Earlier this month, former United captain Rio Ferdinand urged the club to get the deal over the line once and for all.

‘Man United need to find a way of meeting Brentford’s valuation,’ Ferdinand said on Rio Ferdinand Presents. ‘The proposal doesn’t seem to be enough for Brentford, but Manchester United need to get this done.

‘It’s been in the news for far too long, to get to a situation to get to the end of the window and it doesn’t happen, I think that will be an egg-on-the-face situation for Man United unless they go and get someone else. Who have they got waiting in the wings as an alternative? We haven’t heard any names that are close.

‘I would be surprised if this deal doesn’t go through, United have allowed it to go public and they are in a position now where they have to make a move to get it over the line.

‘I will repeat myself. he fits the bill for me physically, he is dynamic, scores goals in the premier league, knows the premier league, watch this space.’
