Stabbing attack in Broadmeadows Central in Melbourne

A teenager has been stabbed and a man was slashed with a machete in two separate shopping center attacks across north Melbourne.

Emergency services were called to Broadmeadows Central Shopping Centre in the city’s north about 6:30pm yesterday after reports a 17-year-old had been stabbed.

The teenager, from Craigieburn, was taken to hospital with critical injuries.

Police allege the victim and offender are known to each other and that a small knife was used in the incident.

It remains unclear where exactly the altercation took place however police taped off large parts of the shopping complex’s undercover carpark.

No arrests have been made and the attacker remains on the run.

In a separate incident on Saturday, a 33-year-old man was injured in a machete attack at Central Square Shopping Centre in Altona Meadows in Melbourne’s south-west.

Police said the man was approached by a group of males and pushed to the ground, before one of the offenders used an “edged weapon” to strike his arm.

He was left with serious but non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The offenders then fled the area with the man’s phone.

No arrests have been made in this incident either.

Both investigations remain ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
