An artwork reportedly crafted by one of Australia‘s notorious serial killers, John Bunting, has been put up for sale on eBay at a steep price.

The artwork is claimed to have been handmade by the Snowtown serial killer while incarcerated in Yatala Prison, with an asking price of $5000.

Bunting, who was the ringleader in South Australia’s notorious bodies in the barrels murders, was convicted of 11 killings in 2003.

A spokesperson for the Department for Correctional Services stated that authorities would thoroughly investigate the artwork to verify if it was indeed created by Bunting during his time in prison.

“Action will be taken if any inappropriate behaviour is found to have occurred,” the spokesperson said.

Bunting, 57, is serving a life sentence under high security.

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas said it is a criminal offence to profit off criminal activity.

“Let’s assume that it’s not, and there’s reason to believe it might not be, then it means someone else is attempting to profit from it,” Malinauskas said.

“That is an exceptionally poor reflection on that individual.”
