DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The VFW building in Danville has sat empty for nearly a year, but it might not be that way for much longer.

The Public Services Committee plans to talk about what to do with it in Tuesday’s meeting. The empty VFW building sits at Main and Gilbert streets.

Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr. said the post was dissolved in November because of a lack of members. Now, the building could be getting a makeover.

Williams said the building was up for auction, and that there were bids, but none were accepted.

So, Williams’ team talked with the VFW about a possible acquisition of the building.

“Securing properties on the main roads for redevelopment is crucial for Danville’s future,” said Williams.

He also said that in the past, there has not always been proper planning for determining what businesses should occupy Gilbert street.

Williams aims to ensure that the city’s busiest street provides what the residents of Danville require and desire. When prompted for more specifics about the redevelopment plans, Mayor Williams preferred not to disclose them yet.
