A study conducted by the Pew Research Center, surveying participants from 24 nations, reveals that opinions on China have taken a more favorable turn, whereas perceptions of the United States are declining.

Some countries surveyed include Israel, U.S., Canada, Mexico, Japan and the U.K.

“This marks the first occasion since 2020 that opinions on China have shown a positive shift,” states the report. Nonetheless, global perceptions of the Asian nation largely remain unfavorable.

The survey inquired about the level of confidence people had in Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping to make the right decisions on international matters. A majority of the countries surveyed expressed a lack of confidence in the American president.

Contrary to Trump, worldwide confidence in Xi has increased in 16 countries over time and has only decreased in Israel where support for Trump is notable.

However, in countries like France, Germany, Spain and the U.K., Trump is rated more highly today than during his first term in office, showing an increase in the president’s popularity.

In an open-ended question asking what country they see as an ally or threat, the United States and Russia were seen as a higher threat than China worldwide.
