Conducting an interview with Ghislaine Maxwell marks a significant step by the Trump administration to address the widespread criticism it faced regarding its controversial approach to the Jeffrey Epstein investigations. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche concluded a two-day session on Friday with Epstein’s convicted collaborator.

However, skepticism surrounds this effort and its potential outcomes, considering the underlying intentions of the parties involved.

And President Donald Trump epitomised all of them in a major way on Friday.

This context seems particularly pertinent today, especially in light of Trump’s known propensity to utilize his power to benefit those who support him, be it through granting pardons or other means. Maxwell, facing several more years of her 20-year sentence, certainly has reasons to align her statements with Trump’s interests.

This does not preclude the possibility that Maxwell’s interviews might yield significant insights. Even individuals whose trustworthiness is questioned can offer valuable information, especially when it is corroborated by other evidence.

But right now, Trump and Co. aren’t trying very hard to make this situation look kosher. And Trump’s pardon comments take that to another level.
