Storm Team 3: Dangerous heat expected this weekend
Share this @internewscast.com

Anticipate the hottest period of the summer to date in Savannah, Ga. this weekend leading into Monday, as an intense high-pressure area settles in, ushering in perilous heat levels. This system draws hot, humid air from the Gulf, possibly driving temperatures to unprecedented highs. It’s advisable to remain indoors and take the necessary steps to stay cool and safe.

Today:

Temperatures will escalate into the upper 90s, with a heat index ranging from 105° to 110°. A Heat Advisory is active from 10 AM Saturday to 10 AM Sunday.

Sunday and Monday:

Temperatures will continue to surge, reaching the low 100s, with heat index numbers approaching 115°. On Sunday at 10 AM, the Heat Advisory will shift to an Excessive Heat Watch, lasting until 8 PM Monday. There is a high chance this will be elevated to an Excessive Heat Warning at some point tomorrow.

Due to the severity of this heat, Weather Aware Days are in effect for both Sunday and Monday. Prolonged exposure can lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke, so it’s critical to take these warnings seriously.

We’re watching for potential record-breaking highs:

  • Today’s record: 102° (set in 2010)
  • Sunday’s record: 100° (set in 2010)
  • Monday’s record: 102° (set in 1949)

We may challenge or even break these records.

Looking Ahead:

Relief arrives midweek as highs drop back into the mid 90s from Tuesday through the rest of the week. This is as rain chances increase as the high-pressure system moves out, allowing for a return to a more typical summertime pattern. Still, with August around the corner, more extreme heat is likely before summer ends.

Stay hydrated, limit time outdoors, and check on vulnerable family and neighbors.
