Claressa Shields Vs. Lani Daniels Results, Highlights And Reactions

Claressa Shields ran her professional record to a perfect 17-0 as she won a unanimous decision over Lani Daniels at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday. The judges scored the fight 100-90 and 99-91 twice.

Shields was on the attack from the beginning. She stalked Daniels looking to land big shots, but the challenger showed strong defensive skills, evading almost all of the GWOAT’s heavy punches in the early rounds.

While Daniels didn’t score with much and was rightfully shut out on one judge’s card, she did appear to frustrate Shields with her movement.

Shields was able to slow Daniels down as she began to go to the body. Daniels then was resigned to trade punches with Shields, and while she showed toughness, she was no match for the multi-division champion and future Hall-of-Famer. The crowd in Detroit cheered on the hometown star as she continued to land more frequently and convincingly, especially in the final rounds.

The best moment of the fight came during an exchange in the ninth round when Shields’ speed and punching prowess were on full display.

She lit Daniels up with hard shots, but the tough New Zealander took them and soldiered on.

There was no controversy in the result, and reactions from around the boxing world followed swiftly. DAZN Boxing’s X channel gave a glimpse of Shields’ best moments in the fight:

Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson appeared to poke fun at Daniels’ approach. The challenger did a lot of running—especially early in the fight:

All the Smoke Boxing captured a microcosm of the fight in one post:

After the fight, Shields talked about Daniels’ avoiding the fight, but moved on quickly to mention her next moves. This bout was Shields’ last on her contract with Salita Promotions, and Dmitry Salita stood by her side in what may be the final moment of their partnership.

It felt like Shields will be moving on to sign with a larger promoter, but she made sure to publicly credit Salita for guiding her to this point in her career.

Quite honestly, it will be tough for Salita to retain Shields. He’ll be hard-pressed to match what Matchroom or MVP Promotions can offer the GWOAT. A move to Eddie Hearn or Jake Paul wouldn’t be surprising—and would make future bouts with Shadasia Green, Savannah Marshall, or any other major name in women’s boxing much easier to secure.

Daniels didn’t speak on camera after the fight, but she does deserve credit for the defense and toughness she displayed in a loss.

I’d suspect Shields’ next fight to be a major event on Netflix or DAZN under a new promoter. She’s on the cusp of taking another step in her already legendary career.
