The mother of a 5-year-old Nevada girl who died in April was charged with child abuse on Monday.

Andrea Loving allegedly informed the police that she and her husband, Nicholas Loving, 35, contemplated burying their daughter, Izabella Loving, in the backyard and leaving the state. The Reno Gazette Journal stated that Izabella Loving had visible injuries on her face, pelvis, hips, and genitals — although Washoe County coroners have not confirmed her cause of death.

Nicholas Loving was taken into custody days after his daughter was discovered dead on a mattress on the floor of their Cold Springs residence, as CrimeOnline reported. He supposedly provided officers with inconsistent accounts of what occurred to the 5-year-old. He allegedly claimed that the girl was ill, coughing up blood and mucus for nine to ten days, and that the family planned to take her to the doctor after 12 days.

Nicholas and Andrea Loving also claimed their daughter was struck in the head with a bat, yet they could not account for her other injuries. Nicholas Loving additionally asserted that the girl fell from a truck, according to the Reno Gazette Journal.

Andrea Loving allegedly also confessed to witnessing her husband kick their daughter in the genitals and drag her by the hood or collar of her sweatshirt. Five days before their daughter’s death, Andrea Loving reportedly heard her husband yelling and a thud indicating a child being thrown.

The Lovings reportedly delayed seeking help after finding their daughter dead due to recent involvement with Child Protective Services. The specifics of the agency’s involvement remain unclear.

Andrea and Nicholas Loving are charged with child abuse resulting in substantial bodily harm. Nicholas Loving remains jailed on $10 million bail.
