JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The partnership between the Washington County/Johnson City Animal Shelter and the ASPCA’s “Rescue Effect Campaign” aims to emphasize the significance of adopting pets.

The ASPCA is reportedly allocating $2 million in grants through the campaign to subsidize adoption fees and aid the operations of various shelters and rescue groups across the U.S.

“This year alone, we’ve welcomed over 2,300 animals seeking care, safety, and a fresh start,” stated Shelter Director Tammy Davis in a news release. “As demand for our services rises, we only receive 29.5% of our funds from governmental channels. The remaining funds rely on the kindness of our community to keep our doors open and ensure the animals’ safety.”

The shelter will host scheduled adoption events with zero fees in August, September and October.

The events will take place Aug. 2 and Aug. 16 from 1-6 p.m. at the shelter (3411 North Roan Street, Johnson City).

Additional adoption events will be announced at a later date.
