Code Red: The Left’s Latest Land Grab Is Bigger Than You Think

They call it “revitalization.”

But it’s not. It’s a coordinated land grab. Plain and simple.

Washington, D.C.: The Left’s Real Estate Blueprint

This isn’t a conspiracy theory. It’s happening.

In March 2020, Washington, D.C., controlled by Democrats, put out a call for proposals to find existing buildings and land suitable for transformation into housing. From 15 submissions, the city chose a single option: a four-story, 24,600-square-foot former gym. The cost? $11 million. This was fully funded through acquisition money approved by Mayor Muriel Bowser.

Subsequently, in June 2025, Mayor Bowser introduced emergency legislation, receiving unanimous support from the D.C. Council, to buy six commercial properties. The city’s plan is to redevelop these areas to ensure a “cohesive development process,” using about $3 million from reserve funds. Despite the unanimous vote, some council members expressed concerns regarding the lack of public engagement and transparency from the administration prior to the bill’s introduction.

This trend of the government acquiring land without competitive bidding and public consultation raises significant concerns about accountability and reveals the expanding influence of bureaucrats in local real estate sectors.
