The search is underway for a highly coveted position as Asahi-owned Carlton and United Breweries seeks a new chief beer taster.

The role is available now after incumbent Tina Panoutsos decided to step down after more than three decades.

“I love it, that’s why I’ve been here for over three decades,” Panoutsos said.

The selection entails a thorough evaluation of candidates’ abilities, as prospective tasters must assess various beer attributes, such as color, clarity, and overall appearance.

Panoutsos does around 30 beer tastings a day in the role she’s leaving, scoring each sample out of nine, looking for any abnormalities.

“Definitely no coffee before tasting, and if so, wash your mouth out,” she said.

“Otherwise, no spicy food.”
