A 28-year-old teacher, accused of killing a couple on an Arkansas hiking trail, has been denied bail.

As reported by FOX News Digital, Andrew James McGann, aged 28, mostly listened in silence as a judge in Washington County read out his legal rights. The judge then decided that McGann should be kept in jail without the option for bail as detailed in the source.

He’s scheduled to be arraigned August 25 on two counts of capital murder.

According to a previous report by CrimeOnline, McGann has been charged with the murders of Clinton Brink, aged 43, and Cristen Brink, aged 41, a couple who had recently relocated to Arkansas from Montana.

The couple had been hiking in Devil’s Den State Park in West Fork on July 26 with their daughters, 7 and 9, who were not physically harmed.

The couple had a third daughter who was not with them on the hike, NBC News reports. The children are now safe with family members.

Prosecturos said that a hiker spotted the two children alone before noticing the crime scene. The hiker called 911.

Once at the scene, police indicated that they found a trail of blood.

Witnesses told police that they spotted a man who “emerged from the trail with what appeared to be blood on his face.”

The man got into a black sedan and drove away.

Authorities traced a Kia Stinger vehicle approximately 30 miles from the state park, leading them to arrest McGann at Lupita’s Beauty Salon in Springdale.

McGann reportedly did not resist arrest as police removed a black and white haircut cape and placed him in handcuffs.

Col. Mike Hagar, the ASP Director, informed on Thursday that the couple died from stab wounds and clarified that there is no current evidence indicating the children were intended victims.

Hagar remarked, “It seems to be a completely random act. We have no reason to think our suspect and victims were acquainted.”

McGann, according to Hagar, confessed to the crime.

“While everyone is presumed innocent until proven otherwise, we confirmed today that the suspect’s DNA definitively matches the DNA found at the crime scene,” stated Hagar.

“During an interview with investigators, the suspect admitted to committing the murders. We also executed a search warrant at his residence and recovered items consistent with the crime.”
