An employee at a Wingstop in Tennessee is accused of throwing hot cooking oil onto two patrons during a disagreement.

Johnisa Herring, 25, faces an aggravated assault charge, according to a complaint affidavit signed on Monday ordering her arrest.

The alleged attack happened several days earlier.

On July 22, two women arrived at a Wingstop on Winchester Road in Memphis to collect their order. While inside, they became involved in a dispute with Herring.

During the ongoing argument with Herring, she reportedly went into the kitchen, filled a bowl with hot cooking oil, and then allegedly returned to throw it at the women, according to the affidavit.

The hot oil hit one woman’s face and upper body, necessitating her transport to a nearby hospital, where police noted she now has 2nd degree burns covering 18.5% of her body. The other woman was burned on her right shoulder by the oil.

The woman with more severe injuries subsequently identified Herring as the assailant, according to the affidavit. The exact reason for the argument remains unclear.

Herring was held in the Shelby County Jail with a bond set at $7,500 and was expected to appear in court on Friday, as reported by Memphis-based CBS affiliate WREG reported. By Saturday, her name was no longer on the jail’s inmate roster, indicating she may have been released.

The suspect is set to make her next appearance in court on Aug. 25.

Wingstop is a restaurant chain based in Texas that specializes in chicken wings.
