Rosiek taking time for gratitude after season-ending injury

Rosiek Embraces Gratitude Following Season-Ending Injury

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — When Dylan Rosiek sustained an injury against Minnesota last season, he initially believed it was just a cleat issue and anticipated a quick return to aid his teammates.

“That was the first time I’ve ever had a season-ending injury or something I needed to get surgery on,” said Rosiek. “It was some trying times.”

The recovery process for his left foot injury began immediately post-game, involving surgery the following week and subsequent physical therapy throughout the spring. As preseason camp opens, the senior linebacker is determined not to take anything for granted.

“We actually got down there, took a seat, just looked over the field and just, you know, took it all in again,” Rosiek recalled. “Just being able to get out there and run and feel my feet underneath me was amazing.”

After two days of camp, Rosiek expressed confidence in his left foot, reporting no recurrence of soreness. The injury did not deter national media, who awarded him Preseason All-Big Ten Honors from Athlon and Phil Steele.

“Dylan Rosiek’s our guy; everyone is thrilled to have him back with us, working hard,” declared linebackers coach Archie McDaniel. “He looks better than ever. Considering the injury challenges he’s faced, his physical condition, spirit, work ethic, and leadership are outstanding. He’s doing fantastic.”

Before his injury last season, Rosiek was averaging seven tackles per game and served as a team captain.
