(NewsNation) — The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has escalated a recent nationwide recall of 64,800 pounds of butter to a higher risk level.

The FDA raised the risk classification for a Bunge North America Inc. butter product to Class II, the second-highest warning, due to an undisclosed ingredient: milk.

Milk is listed among the nine major food allergens under U.S. food safety regulations, alongside eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans, and sesame seeds. The FDA mandates that manufacturers specify the source of any major food allergen on their labels.

The FDA did not say whether anyone had been adversely affected in connection with the recall.

A report from July 14 by the FDA revealed that over 1,800 cases of the NH European Style Butter Blend were shipped to 12 locations in the U.S. and one in the Dominican Republic. The affected butter bears the lot code 5064036503.

According to the FDA, a Class II recall signifies a situation where the use or exposure to a non-compliant product may lead to temporary or medically reversible negative health effects, with a low chance of severe health outcomes.

Nexstar’s NewsNation has reached out to Bunge North America for comment.

Headquartered in Chesterfield, Missouri, Bunge North America Inc. is an agribusiness and food ingredient company that also supplies corn, wheat, rice, soybeans, and feed peas, among other products.
