Dozens of flights and ferry services have been cancelled in Sydney as heavy fog causes major delays for commuters.

A spokesperson for Sydney Airport warned the fog, which is lifting, may cause some delays.

“Heavy fog is affecting flights across the network, so we recommend that passengers verify the status of their flight with their airline,” the airport announced.

International and domestic flights are affected.

For commuters, transport authorities have told passengers to make alternative travel arrangements or consider catching a bus instead.

After a total cancellation of services earlier this morning, some ferries have resumed.

Ferries east of Sydney Harbour Bridge are now operating, but the F3 Parramatta River and F4 Pyrmont Bay services are still affected.

Some services have also been cancelled between Rydalmere and Circular Quay, and between Sydney Olympic Park and Barangaroo.

Even with this notice, travelers are advised to anticipate longer travel times, listen for service announcements, and monitor information boards for updates.

There is no impact on flight services out of Sydney Airport.

Thick morning fog has settled over Sydney Harbour, extending into the city’s northern and western areas. Visibility is so low this morning that the Sydney Harbour Bridge could hardly be seen from Milsons Point.

The fog is expected to clear later today, with temperatures in Sydney expected to reach a maximum of 21 degrees.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning about large and powerful surf conditions in Sydney as winds increase, making activities like rock fishing, swimming, and surfing risky.
