MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Shortly after two individuals were hit by a vehicle on Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach, an employee from a nearby restaurant quickly responded by helping the victims and contacting 911, as reported to News13 on Monday.

“If you visit the site now, there’s still blood on the pavement,” mentioned the Angus Steakhouse employee who requested anonymity. “It’s heartbreaking. People think they’re just crossing the street, but there’s a reckless disregard for the surroundings.”

Myrtle Beach police arrested 39-year-old Bryan O’Neal Thomas on Sunday, charging him with two counts of hit-and-run, one involving a fatality. He is currently held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center with a bond set at $50,000.

The victim, 26-year-old Dezhon Overton, was visiting from Kansas City when he and another person were struck at the intersection of 21st Ave S. shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The employee said she rushed to the scene and saw a man and woman lying on the pavement, gasping for air.

“When I arrived, I saw two bodies on the ground. I rushed over, and a colleague of mine started directing traffic,” the employee recounted. “Drivers kept moving past, curious about the scene. In that moment, I knew I had to be courageous.”

Authorities have not identified the condition of the other person with Overton.
