A 14-year-old teenager from Florida was taken into custody on Monday after he dialed 911 claiming he had fatally shot his parents and was awaiting arrest in a church’s parking lot.
Trevor Lee faces two charges of second-degree murder for the deaths of David Lee, 44, and Brandi Smith, 45, as reported by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
Law enforcement officers responded both to the church and the nearby residence, located just over a mile away, uncovering the deceased bodies of Lee and Smith, who had suffered gunshot wounds. The teen was apprehended without any resistance, WKMG states.
“Preliminary findings indicate, though this is an early stage of the investigation, that there was a domestic dispute on Sunday night involving Trevor Lee and his parents,” explained Sheriff Michelle Cook.
Cook said the boy shot his parents with their gun and left it at the scene, WTSP reported.
“We express our utmost condolences to the family, friends, and everyone affected by this tragic event,” noted the sheriff’s office. “Our hearts go out to them as they deal with this unthinkable loss.”
