JFRD engineer accused of stealing from Winn-Dixie self-checkout 27 times

Brian Albright, 51, is accused of stealing more than 100 items from the store over four months.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An engineer from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department was apprehended on Monday for petit theft after accusations arose that he repeatedly stole items from a Winn-Dixie checkout line, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

On July 29, the report mentions that a complainant alerted law enforcement about Brian Albright, 51, stealing from three separate Winn-Dixie grocery stores on 27 occasions. These alleged thefts happened between March 11, 2025, and July 18, 2025.

The report states that the complainant provided police video evidence and receipts for each incident.

Upon reviewing the evidence, investigators claimed Albright “purposefully and intentionally” neglected to scan certain items during his purchases. The report indicates he stole over 100 items from the stores.

The report also highlights that while investigators estimated the stolen items’ total value likely surpasses $750, a precise amount couldn’t be determined because prices for some products, such as steaks and other packaged meats, remain unknown. Investigators further noted the stolen items couldn’t be conclusively identified.

The report details that on multiple occasions, Albright was in uniform and on duty during the thefts. In another instance, it reports that a minor helped Albright by handing him items from the shopping cart as he deliberately failed to scan them.

Albright was charged with one count of misdemeanor petit theft.
