EDGEFIELD, S.C. () – On Thursday, South Carolina Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette made a significant announcement in Edgefield, focusing on enhancing safety for law enforcement officers.

Evette, who is among several contenders running for governor of South Carolina, addressed supporters at the Edgefield County Jail and Law Enforcement Center on August 7. During her speech, she shared her office plans, which emphasize backing law enforcement.

“They are attempting to protect themselves, secure their weapons, keep an eye on their surroundings, and monitor what is happening in front of them,” Evette stated. “With the HALO Act, we’re proposing that when a law enforcement officer or a first responder requests others to back away, individuals approaching their space must retreat 25 feet, allowing them to perform their duties without the concern of being harmed.”
