FORT STEWART, GA. — The focus remains on the Fort Stewart community as they cope with the aftermath of Wednesday’s shooting, which left five soldiers injured. While these soldiers are on the mend, six of their comrades have been recognized for their courageous actions during the incident.

The Secretary of the Army, Hon. Dan Driscoll, awarded these individuals with the Meritorious Service Medal for their brave and immediate response to subdue the suspect, which is believed to have prevented further harm.

“As a commander, witnessing the practical application of training when it truly matters is invaluable, whether here at home or abroad. We all pledge to uphold the constitution, and I am immensely proud of the outstanding soldiers we have,” expressed Lt. Col. Mike Sanford, leading the 703rd Brigade Support Battalion.

The suspect, 28-year-old Quornelious Radford, is currently held in Liberty County Jail and is expected to be moved to a military detention facility. The specific charges against him have not yet been disclosed.

Details about the injured soldiers have not been made public, but it is reported that three have been discharged, one remains hospitalized at Memorial Health Hospital, and another is receiving care at Winn Army Community Hospital.
