NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. () – The North Augusta Department of Safety has released new information on the whereabouts of Susan Rhodes.

NAPS said they were notified that the missing woman was back at home after a phone call from her roommate on August 5th.

Law enforcement had to get into the house through the window to speak with Rhodes, due to all doors being locked.

As per reports, Rhodes informed law enforcement that following her crash on June 11th, she ventured into the woods and ended up in a creek, which led to a river. She explained that the water was so rapid it washed away her shoes and pants, and she clung to tree roots to avoid drowning.

Rhodes reportedly returned to the road where an unidentified elderly couple picked her up and took her to their home, where she remained. She mentioned that the couple provided her with bread and water. She observed she was in the Thomson area, near Highway 278. She also noted another man in a black truck eventually brought her back home.

She told police she thought she had a stroke and didn’t remember much.

Authorities concluded on August 5th that Susan Rhodes had fled the scene to evade prosecution related to the June crash. Reports indicate an empty beer can was discovered in the vehicle she was driving.

Warrants have been issued for Hit and Run, Unattended Vehicle with Property Damage.

After interviewing Rhodes on August 5th, EMS transported her to the hospital for an evaluation. During transportation, her condition was upgraded to emergent.

This case continues to be an active investigation and is still being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Division.
