Woman charged with child cruelty after 1-year-old's death

AUGUSTA, Ga. () – A woman has been charged with Cruelty to Children in the second degree after her 1-year-old son passed away at home in Augusta in June.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office arrested 30-year-old Genysis Lowery on Aug. 2.

According to an arrest warrant, Lowery is accused of of leaving “unsecured prescribed

The incident involved liquid methadone medication on an eating table inside a rear bedroom. The children were reportedly playing without adult supervision, and the medication spilled on the floor. Lowery removed the children from the bedroom and later cleaned up the spilled medication.

Lowery allegedly placed her child, identified as the 16-month-old Trae’son Dunn, into a playpen to sleep for the night, and hours later, the child was found unresponsive.

First responders arrived on the scene and the child was pronounced deceased.

Report results from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Division of Forensic Sciences determined the child tested positive for methadone, with levels indicating an overdose.
