(The Hill) – On Friday, President Trump announced plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska next Friday. The meeting in the United States is set to address the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.

Trump shared on Truth Social, “I am set to meet with President Vladimir Putin of Russia next Friday, August 15, 2025, in Alaska. More details will be released soon. Thank you for your attention!”

Earlier that day, Trump confirmed the upcoming meeting, stating that discussions would include potential territorial exchanges as part of peace negotiations. Reports suggest that Putin proposed a ceasefire plan involving Ukraine making some territorial concessions.

“These territories have seen over three and a half years of conflict, with heavy casualties on both sides—Russians and Ukrainians. We’re considering some territorial returns and swaps. It’s complex, nothing is straightforward. But we’re aiming to retrieve some and make some exchanges,” Trump stated.

“There’ll be some swapping of territories to the betterment of both, but we’ll be talking about that either later or tomorrow or whatever,” he added.

At the time, Trump mentioned he would disclose the meeting location soon, as he was busy with the peace agreement signing between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

When asked about the possibility of hosting a similar meeting with Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump expressed optimism, saying, “I believe we have a chance. We’re determined to resolve this.”

He also punted to Zelensky to prepare to sign a ceasefire agreement.

“Now, President Zelensky has to get all of his, everything he needs, because he’s going to have to get ready to sign something and I think he’s working hard to get that done,” the president said.

Trump had been weighing whether to meet with Putin, as well as Zelensky, in the coming weeks and raised the idea of meeting with the two leaders during a call with European allies on Wednesday, a source confirmed to The Hill. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt this week said Russia had expressed an interest in meeting with Trump.
