Three things to watch for in Bucs' preseason opener against the Titans

In Tampa, Florida, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are ready to transition from training camp scrimmages to their first preseason game, albeit one that won’t impact their official standings.

This Saturday night, the Buccaneers will face the Tennessee Titans at home. Tennessee, now boasting No. 1 overall pick and former Miami Hurricane Cam Ward, will be a formidable opponent. While most starters are expected to sit out, as noted by Bucs head coach Todd Bowles, there are several promising younger players eager to leave their mark. Let’s take a closer look at three key players to watch on Saturday night:

Kyle Trask – Serving as the Bucs’ backup quarterback for four years, the former Florida Gator is now facing competition due to the team’s signing of veteran QB Teddy Bridgewater. In 2024’s preseason, Trask delivered a solid performance with three touchdowns to just one interception. Should he replicate those results, he might retain his backup QB spot, potentially moving Bridgewater to the practice squad.

Jacob Parrish – This third-round Kansas State pick has quickly impressed the Bucs’ coaching staff. Coach Bowles remarked on the minimal corrections needed for him, highlighting his athletic talents and knack for securing turnovers, as seen in two interceptions during rookie minicamp. With extensive time practicing with the first-string defense at nickel, a standout preseason could cement him as the starting nickelback.

Chris Braswell – Selected in the second round by the Bucs in 2024, Braswell’s rookie year yielded modest statistics: 18 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble across 17 games. However, the Alabama alumnus showed growth late last season. Football Focus ranked him fifth among rookies for pressures with 19. Coach Bowles has commented on Braswell’s newfound speed off the snap this year. Continued progress could make him a key player in the Bucs’ edge rotation this season.
