StormTeam 3: Soaking Saturday storms as flooding threat continues

Hi, Hi – StormTeam 3 Meteorologist Alysa Carsley here – let’s have a fabulous Saturday!

We begin the weekend with gradually arriving heavy showers as a flash flood warning is active for Chatham County, including Savannah and surrounding Islands. Although the warning concluded at 7:15 am, isolated rain showers will persist through late morning. From midday into early afternoon, waves of intermittent storms will move inland. Numerous heavy showers are predicted to last into the evening, sustaining our flood risk with a moderate chance of substantial rainfall. Most areas can expect 1-2″ of rain, with isolated spots seeing even higher totals.

Sunday appears to mirror Saturday, with coastal morning showers evolving into widespread afternoon and evening storms. The risk of heavy rainfall remains moderate, and total weekend rainfall could top 3″, particularly in slower-moving storms. Temperatures will remain high.

The series of weekend storms is due to a coastal low departing from North Carolina, accompanied by a trailing trough. This trough draws moisture northward, providing conditions for continuous rain showers and storms.

As we approach the beginning of the work week, the trough’s influence will decrease. This will finally reduce rain chances, though temperatures are set to rise, returning to the seasonal average in the lower 90s. It will feel like summer has returned!
