FORT STEWART, Ga. () — Officials announced Friday that a couple has been charged in federal court for the murder of their child while residing at Fort Stewart.

Brandon and Stacey Kelly are alleged to have failed to provide their child, Vyolet Kelley, with necessary nutrition and medical attention during their time at Fort Stewart, according to a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia.

A federal indictment, now unsealed, accuses 29-year-old Brandon and 26-year-old Stacey of felony murder and two counts of second-degree murder. If they are found guilty, they face a maximum punishment of life imprisonment.

The charges alleged that Vyolet starved to death while living at the Fort Stewart Military Reservation.

Brandon was an enlisted soldier, the U.S. Attorney’s Office spokesperson said.

“The charges in this case are profoundly tragic. Our office remains committed to working alongside law enforcement to seek justice,” said Acting United States Attorney Tara M. Lyons.

The case was thoroughly investigated by the United States Army Criminal Investigative Division and is being handled in court by Assistant United States Attorneys Timothy P. Dean and E. Greg Gilluly, Jr.
