Marine Corps recruit shot in leg during training exercise on Parris Island

PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. () — A Marine Corps recruit was shot during a training exercise at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) on Parris Island Wednesday.

During a marksmanship drill, an incident happened when a recruit from the Recruit Training Regiment received a gunshot wound to the leg on the shooting range.

The recruit received immediate stabilization at the location before being transported by air to a hospital in Savannah. Their condition is currently under observation, and further information is not available at this moment, noted Capt. John Hardin.

The incident is currently under investigation.

“It would be too early to comment on the cause or details until we have all the information,” Hardin remarked. “Ensuring the safety of our recruits and staff is our utmost concern, and we are dedicated to conducting a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the incident.”
