GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Greeneville Police Department (GPD) announced the arrest of an individual following an investigation into a reported robbery at Food City.

According to a release from the GPD, officers responded to a reported robbery at the Food City on Snapps Ferry Road on Aug. 8.

“After thoroughly reviewing surveillance footage, witness statements, and other findings from the investigation, it was determined that the alleged robbery did not occur as it was initially reported to authorities,” the GPD stated in a news release.

However, the investigation did lead to the arrest of Champaigne Cansler, of Mosheim, who was reportedly charged with aggravated robbery.

“We recognize that reports of crimes, particularly in public settings, can raise concerns within the community,” the GPD noted. “Our department is dedicated to delivering accurate information and ensuring public safety through transparent communication.”

The police department stated no further information will be released at this time.
