Grassroots push for freedom grows in Gaza as Hamas tightens its deadly grip

Palestinians, according to Abusada, are urging Hamas to consent to a ceasefire and involve other parties in the discussions. “Negotiating exclusively with Hamas isn’t effective… Hamas members don’t fear death. They believe if they die, they’ll enter paradise, which is why it’s uncommon for Hamas fighters to surrender. Most of them fight to the last moment, aspiring to become shaheed (martyrs). They are prepared to die.”

“Voices from Gaza are urging Hamas to incorporate the PA (Palestinian Authority) or Egypt into the ceasefire negotiations. People are yearning for an end to this chaos,” he stated.

Another resident of Gaza, who wished to remain anonymous, echoed these views. “It’s true; many people oppose Hamas now. They speak openly about it. They’re no longer afraid. They don’t fear Hamas anymore. They see them as murderers, foolish people.”

“The people of Gaza don’t seek conflict with Israel,” the man from Gaza continued, “But many Gazans also hold Israel accountable for not distinguishing between civilians and Hamas. Why must we remain in the same region as Hamas? Israel should have considered safe zones from the start. Increasing numbers of people recognize the value in this concept now. We need multiple safe zones where individuals can go, distant from Hamas, where aid can be delivered.”

“For the first time, individuals are voicing their opinions, even at considerable personal risk… they desire change. They want the violence to cease, and they are eager to have their voices heard,” al-Natour stated.
