NEW YORK (AP) — Early Sunday morning, a club shooting occurred in Brooklyn, a borough of New York City, resulting in three fatalities and injuring nine others during a year with notably low gun violence in the city.

Officials suspect that as many as four individuals fired multiple weapons at Taste of the City Lounge located in Crown Heights following a disagreement shortly before 3:30 a.m. The incident is thought to be related to gang activity, according to New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch.

“This is a dreadful shooting that took place in New York City,” Tisch stated during a news briefing, labeling the event as a “tragic, senseless act of violence.”

This crime represents the second mass shooting in weeks in New York City, despite a general decline in gun violence this year. On July 29, a man roamed through a Manhattan office building with a rifle, injuring one individual and killing four others, including a New York City police officer.

Mayor Eric Adams said both recent shootings just reinforce “why we do this work of going after guns off our streets.”

“This is the second within weeks, and we don’t want this to turn into a normal course of doing business of violence in our city,” he said.

Victims from Sunday’s incident are receiving treatment at hospitals for injuries that are not life-threatening, said Tisch. The ages of those affected range from 19 to 61. Among the deceased, a 19-year-old man died at the location, while two others, aged 35 and 27, passed away after being taken to a hospital.

Investigators found at least 42 shell casings from 9 mm and .45-caliber weapons and a firearm in a nearby street.

Adams mentioned that crisis management teams have been deployed to offer trauma-related services and mediate with friends and families of the victims to deter any acts of vengeance. He urged the public with information on the shooting to assist investigators by reaching out to the NYPD’s crime stoppers line at 800-577-TIPS.

“If you were inside the club, if you heard individuals talking about this shooting, if you witnessed someone fleeing the location, every piece of information will allow us to put the puzzle together,” Adams said.

Tisch said the violence erupted even as the city has reported the lowest number of shootings and shooting victims on record during the first seven months of 2025.

“Something like this is, of course, thank God, an anomaly and it’s a terrible thing that happened this morning, but we’re going to investigate and get to the bottom of what went down,” she said.
