BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — A former professional football player and Alabama Crimson Tide standout athlete has been taken into custody, as reported by Nexstar’s WKRG.

Timothy “TJ” Yeldon, 31, from Daphne, Alabama, faces charges of third-degree domestic violence, third-degree criminal mischief, and interference with a domestic violence emergency call, according to a news release from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.

Early on August 16, around 1 a.m., the BCSO received a transferred emergency phone call from 911. The release indicated that “BCSO communication officers could hear what appeared to be a domestic violence incident occurring between a male and female.”

Deputies responded to the 28000 block of State Highway 181, according to officials.

Officials “knocked on the door, and upon seeing the deputies, the male party switched off the lights and refused to answer the door,” the release noted. “The caller managed to retreat to the bedroom and lock the door when deputies arrived. However, after the lights were switched off, the male was trying to enter the bedroom with the victim.”

“This information was relayed to the on-scene deputies, prompting BCSO personnel to attempt a forced entry. At that point, the male unlocked the door and was apprehended.”

Yeldon was taken to the BCSO corrections center and was released on a $2,000 bond, according to officials.

Yeldon, who played for the Alabama Crimson Tide, was selected in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars, appearing in 51 games before signing with the Buffalo Bills.

He left Jacksonville on less-than-great terms after then-executive vice president of football operations Tom Coughlin called the running back and Leonard Fournette “disrespectful, selfish and their behavior was unbecoming that of a professional football player,” for their demeanor during a playoff game, ESPN reported.

Yeldon then spent two seasons with the Bills, last playing three games in the 2020 season.
