BURKE COUNTY, Ga ()- A woman from Burke County is in custody following her arrest on Sunday, facing charges of first-degree cruelty to children. She stands accused of repeatedly assaulting her 14-year-old grandson.

The Burke County sheriff’s Office was called to Burke County High School Friday afternoon for a child abuse complaint.

In a session with a counselor, the teenager disclosed to authorities that his grandmother, Patricia Green, who works as a nurse at Doctors Hospital, regularly attacked him nearly every evening.

The police report indicates that officers observed numerous injuries, including a split lip, a wound on his head, and bruises on his left arm. The teenager explained that the head injury resulted from being struck with a dustpan.

The teen further informed officers that his grandmother’s abusive behavior escalates with her drinking. He mentioned that his grandfather attempts to step in, but Green turns violent towards him as well. In such instances, she calls the police if he tries to protect himself or the teenager. The report acknowledges that the grandfather has been arrested before.

Upon visiting the household, investigators spoke with the grandfather, who confirmed the teenager’s account. He described his wife as a heavy drinker, frustrated over the lack of child support for the teen, leading her to vent her anger on him. The grandparents currently have full custody of the teenager. He also noted another young male resides in the home, though he is not subjected to abuse.

The grandfather urged the teen to speak to a counselor at school about the situation, because he didn’t feel he was able to help him.

He agreed to turn his wife in to law enforcement and not tell her they were aware of the situation, appreciating that an arrest would be made.
