AUGUSTA, Ga. ()- Augusta Tech students are heading back to school.

If students are headed into the new school year undecided about their future career path, then there’s a unique opportunity for them.

This semester, members of the Augusta Fire Department can participate in a five-term, 64-credit program available through fire academy training.

Once completed, students become qualified for higher positions within the fire department.

It’s just one of the over 100 academic programs being offered at Augusta Tech this year.

“We’re close to 5000 students now. Therefore, we are focusing on developing other areas within the college, as we offer around 130 academic programs. Our largest enrollment is seen in our health sciences programs, especially nursing and other allied health programs,” stated Dr. Melissa Frank-Alston, Augusta Tech’s interim President.

And for those wondering how they’ll fund their college education, the interim president says there are plenty of options available for students.

“The Augusta Tech Foundation board is keen on boosting scholarships to inform students about the available options. We have a diverse student body, including military and enrolled students. Our goal is to support students, even those approaching the end of their last semester who might require extra financial aid.”

The institution has also partnered with Columbia County Fire Rescue to offer an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Fire & Emergency Services Occupation.

Today is also the first day of school for Aiken Technical College.
