Minnesota Woman Prayed to ‘Guide My Bullets’ As She Opened Fire on Neighbor She Believed Was ‘Murdering and Raping People’

A woman in Minnesota prayed for divine guidance, asking God to “guide my bullets like you guided David’s rock” before she shot at a neighbor earlier this month, suspecting that both the neighbor and her husband were involved in criminal activities such as murder and rape.

The victim suffered injuries as bullet fragments lodged in her eye and brain, resulting in a brain bleed. According to a probable cause affidavit, she remained hospitalized as of Thursday.

Ava Kock Affidavit by kc wildmoon

Ava Kock, 64, has been charged with one count of attempted murder and two counts of assault.

The affidavit reports that the victim’s husband called 911 around 10 p.m. on August 12 to report the shooting. He had been playing video games inside when his wife called, prompting him to go outside. He discovered her hiding behind the dashboard of their Jeep Wrangler, which had bullet holes in both the driver’s side door and the windshield.

Deputies from Winona County arrived on the scene, beginning their investigation and noting that the bullets seemed to originate from a neighboring apartment window, rented by Kock. While most windows in Kock’s apartment had taped-over holes, they identified one window with seven holes matching the size of the bullet holes in the vehicle. Notably, these screen holes appeared to be outwardly pushed.

Kock explained to the deputies that she had heard noise outside but chose not to investigate due to a previous local incident that had led to a shelter-in-place order. She claimed that the screens were already damaged when she moved in, prompting her to tape them to prevent bugs. Upon explaining the bullet trajectory, a deputy gained permission to enter her apartment for further investigation.

Kock acknowledged possessing a gun but insisted she had not used it for years, denying any recent firearm discharge. Deputies noted her cooperation and willingness to undergo a gunshot residue test if asked. They obtained no additional information at that time and proceeded with their investigation elsewhere.

But everything changed the next day when Kock called 911 and said she had tried to contact the FBI and wanted to meet with law enforcement about murders that had allegedly taken place in Elba. She agreed to meet police at a local park.

Once there, she said she believed the victim and her husband “were murdering and raping people” and that she had “heard them digging graves in the basement of their apartment and believes he has people and kids buried there.”

“Defendant stated she had to intervene because the justice system hasn’t done anything to stop Witness and Victim’s criminal behavior,” the affidavit said.

So, she told the deputies, she took her son’s .22 caliber rifle from a storage shed and opened fire when she saw the Jeep pull into the apartment, believing that both the victim and her husband were inside.

“Defendant stated she said a prayer like, ‘guide my bullets like you guided David’s rock’ and fired seven rounds because seven is referenced in the Bible several times,” the document says. “She told Officers after she fired the rounds she felt at peace, and she didn’t care that Victim was injured.”

Kock then hid the gun behind her stove and the spent shell casings in a potted plant. Upon executing a search warrant, deputies found the gun behind the stove and six of the seven shell casings in the plant. A seventh was found on a rug in the bathroom, where Kock attacked her neighbor.

According to KTTC, Kock was given a $500,000 bond last week and ordered back to court on Thursday.

Police did not say if they found any evidence of the victim and her husband raping and murdering people, but even if they had, Kock would be charged.
