A gut health expert has revealed what he eats in a day after following what is widely recognised as one of the world’s healthiest diets. Jordan Haworth, who also goes by Mr Gut Health on social media, shared a ‘What I eat in a day’ video while following the Mediterranean Diet.

The Mediterranean diet is a way of eating based on dietary patterns from Mediterranean countries such as Greece, Italy and Spain. It focuses on plant-based goods and healthy fats, with extra virgin olive oil being the main source of it. The diet is great for lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease and other chronic conditions, which is why it is often recommended by dietitians.

In Haworth’s video that he shared on Instagram, the clincial physiologist shared just how easy it can be to follow the diet. He starts off his busy working day with a tumeric and ginger shot, ecouraging his followers to make their own as it is “cheaper and better than buying them”.

He then follows up with preparing some green tea that he can take to work, as well as some psyllium jelly which is “magic for the gut”.

Pysllium husk is a soluble fibre which is made from the seeds of Plantago ovata. It is well known for boosting digestive health and helping to relieve conspitation and diarrhoea.

For breakfast, the expert enjoys some yoghurt with granola and blueberries. Fruits with every meal plays a significant role when following the diet.

Shortly after, he enjoyed a cup of the green tea he had brewed earlier. He said: “I aim for at least three cups of green tea and a handful of walnuts daily because, according to Med diet studies, the polyphenols help heart, brain, and gut health.”

His next meal might comes as a suprise to some as it is a UK favourite. The diet expert opts for some beans on toast “because legumes are a big part of the Med diet”. He adds that he enjoys the meal “all the time at work” thanks to it being cost effective as well as high in both fibre and protein.

He added: “I put EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) on my beans on toast. Mediterranean benefits are seen with around four tablespoons a day.”

Also part of his afternoon routine is a kombucha – a green tea drink with good microbes, before he prepares his last meal which is a lemon Greek chicken meal paired with some rice and brocooli, and then a glass of merlot grape juice.

At the end of the day, Hamworth has some herbal tea and two kiwis, a night time ritual that helps him “sleep like a baby”.

The video gained over 9,500 likes, and has comment section filled with viewers thanking him for the advice.
