Sounds Like They're Cracking: Texas Democrat Gene Wu's Latest Whine Is One for the Books

On Wednesday, the Texas House Democrats’ effort to stall the passage of redistricting maps failed when the House was finally able to hold the vote.

Previously, we reported that Texas House Democrats left the state in an effort to halt the quorum and stop the passing of new redistricting maps. They remained out of state for over two weeks, which delayed legislative proceedings and interrupted the work meant for Texas residents. Eventually, most of them returned on Monday, attempting to frame their actions as a triumph by saying they raised “awareness” about the issue.

Yet, in the end, the Democrats couldn’t avoid the outcome—they were destined to face a loss. Despite their last-minute efforts to block the bill, including several attempts to modify it, the Democrats suffered a notable defeat with a vote count of 88-52.

Now that’s what can happen when Republicans come together and hold strong.

The legislation now proceeds to the Texas Senate, with a decision anticipated on Thursday. It is expected to pass without much hindrance. Should it pass, it’s likely to be signed into law by Texas Governor Greg Abbott by week’s end.

The redistricting plans could give Republicans five additional U.S. House seats, which is causing significant frustration among Democrats. Consequently, California Governor Gavin Newsom is considering redistricting measures to bolster the Democrats’ position.

There was an additional layer of drama when Texas Democratic state Rep. Nicole Collier, who had been present since Monday, attempted to join a video call with California Governor Gavin Newsom and fellow Democrats from a Capitol bathroom while the redistricting debate continued. She had to leave the call after being informed that participating in a video call from the chamber or bathroom could constitute a felony.

Watch Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) just lose his mind, saying, “That is outrageous!” He claimed Collier has more “dignity” than President Donald Trump.

Booker is something else with the tantrums. Because calling from the bathroom is so dignified.

What performative nonsense, but that’s how much they’re melting down over having been defeated here. They’re so upset they lost, and it’s glorious to see.
