Vance touts GOP tax bill in Georgia stop

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. () Vice President JD Vance visited Peachtree City, Georgia, on Thursday to advocate for the Republican Party’s recently approved “big, beautiful bill.”

Vance’s stop aims to pitch working-class voters on the promised perks of the bill, including ending taxation on tipped wages.

The vice president pointed to his mother, Bev Vance, whom he said waited tables for a period of time.

This visit takes place amidst nationwide Republican encounters with hostile town halls, where voters argue that the new tax legislation shifts wealth from the poorest Americans to the wealthiest. Critics have also expressed concerns that Medicaid funding cuts could lead to hospital closures, especially in rural areas.

In March, House Speaker Mike Johnson advised Republican lawmakers to avoid town halls that have attracted protesters against the Trump administration’s federal government reductions.

The Republicans find themselves in an atypical situation, having to defend significant budget cuts they have long supported but seldom achieved, as these cuts affect federal programs and services essential to their constituents.
