U.S. Senators Roger Wicker from Mississippi and Deb Fischer began a visit to the Indo-Pacific region on Friday, aiming to bolster U.S. national security initiatives.

The Congressional Delegation (CODEL) that includes Senators Wicker and Fischer will initially visit military bases in Hawaii, followed by engagements in Guam, Tinian, Palau, the Philippines, and especially, Taiwan.

“We live in the most dangerous national security moment since World War II,” Sen. Wicker exclusively told before his departure.

“Congress plays a critically important role in reinforcing U.S. commitments to our allies and partners for a stable regional order in the Indo-Pacific,” said Senator Fischer.

Wicker added he was hoping to assist President Donald Trump in ensuring the U.S. “maintain peace through strength.”

As global tensions rise with the Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing military expansion, safeguarding a free and open Indo-Pacific is vital for the security of our nation and our allies,” Senator Fischer noted.

“I’m eager to join Chairman Wicker on this CODEL to personally assess how we can enhance our presence in the region to protect American interests and those of our allies,” she added.
