() The captain of a shipping container was arrested in Seattle on Wednesday for allegedly operating the vessel while intoxicated.

On August 20, the Coast Guard Sector in Puget Sound received a report from a Puget Sound Pilot onboard the MSC Jubilee IX that the ship’s captain appeared to be intoxicated. The U.S. Coast Guard stated that the ship had traveled from an anchorage near Everett, Washington, reaching Terminal 5 at the Port of Seattle without any problems.

Upon reaching the port, the Coast Guard Investigative Service agents administered a field sobriety test and breathalyzer to the captain, discovering a blood alcohol content exceeding the legal limit for commercial mariners by over six times. The captain was subsequently arrested and taken to King County Jail, with charges for boating under the influence directed to the prosecutor.

The MSC Jubilee IX, a 333-meter container vessel flying the Liberian flag, resumed its operations after a short detainment by the U.S. Coast Guard, pending the arrival of a relief captain.
