Michelle Williams may be headed for another Emmy win, this time for her emotionally charged performance in FX’s “Dying For Sex.” She previously won for her work in “Fosse/Verdon” by FX.

This limited series is based on the true experiences of Molly Kochan, who, after learning she has terminal cancer, chooses to spend her remaining time delving into her passions. The series draws inspiration from a podcast that Molly co-hosted with her close friend Nikki Boyer.

Williams plays Mollly and Jenny Slate plays Nikki.

“The story touched me deeply. As soon as I heard the podcast, I felt a strong connection to Molly and Nikki,” Williams shared with On The Red Carpet. “I instantly knew I wanted to bring this to the screen.”

The eight-part series manages to blend humor with heartache, presenting Molly in a complex and compelling way that catches Emmy voters’ attention. Despite the award discussions, Williams remains grounded.

“You never truly know how the audience will react to your work,” Williams explained. “It’s important to focus on setting personal goals and find satisfaction while working, because once released, it’s beyond your control.”

“This project holds significant value for me because it’s about celebrating Molly and Nikki’s lives and love,” she added. “That’s what truly matters in the audience’s response.”

“Dying For Sex” earned nine Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series and Michelle is up for Outstanding Lead Actress. Slate is up for Supporting Actress and Rob Delaney, who plays Neighbor Guy, is up for Supporting Actor.

“You get a feel on set and the feel on this set was very, very good,” Delaney told On The Red Carpet. “How it turned out, the magic that happened in the translation from filming to broadcasting? Yeah, I feel very lucky.”

“I’m feeling so grateful for the amount of encouragement I’m getting and for the amount of joy that I felt making this show and continue to feel. I’m very excited, very happy,” said Slate.

The series meant so much to the real life Nikki Boyer, who was an executive producer.

“I love that everyone was so available to absorb the story and be willing to take it on and take it in,” she said.

When On The Red Carpet asked what Molly might think about the Emmys talk for the series based on her experiences, Boyer started to tear up as she answered.

“The funny thing about Molly is she was so humble and so sweet and so loving and so present that there would be part of her that would be like, ‘Can you believe this? This is unbelievable that my tiny little life means something so big.'”

“Dying For Sex” is currently streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of FX, Hulu and this ABC station.
