(The Hill) President Trump is facing increasing disapproval from Americans seven months into his second term, as revealed by a survey released on Friday.

A poll conducted by The Economist/YouGov shows that 40% of Americans either “strongly or somewhat” approve of Trump’s presidency. On the other hand, 56% of U.S. adults expressed “strong or somewhat” disapproval of the president’s performance, while 4% remain undecided on the matter.

Most Democratic voters disapprove of Trump, while most Republicans approve of his handling of the presidency.

Trump’s approval is highest among those aged 65 and older, with almost half, 48%, expressing “strong or somewhat” approval of his role as president. The lowest approval comes from the 18 to 29 age group, with roughly one-third, 29%, showing any level of support for his presidency.

The poll also indicates that less than one in four Americans, 23%, “strongly approve” of Trump’s performance, while 47% “strongly disapprove.” In contrast, during the last Economist/YouGov survey under former President Biden, 56% of U.S. adults expressed strong approval or disapproval, while 39% somewhat approved or disapproved.

A significant majority, 95%, of those identifying as “very liberal” strongly disapprove of Trump, compared to 72% of self-identified “very conservative” Americans who strongly approve of him leading the country.

Additionally, a Reuters/Ipsos survey from earlier this month highlighted that Trump’s approval rating declined to 40%, marking a 7-point decrease since the start of his second term.

In the average of surveys from Decision Desk HQ, the president currently has a 45.6 % approval rating and a 51.1% disapproval rating.

A Pew Research Center poll, released in mid-August, found that Trump’s current job approval rating is at 38%.

The Economist/YouGov poll was conducted from August 15-18 among 1,568 U.S. adults. The margin of error was around 3.5 percentage points.
