DAVID Lammy has been let off the hook for fishing with JD Vance without a rod licence, The Sun can reveal.

The Foreign Secretary avoided a hefty fine from the Environment Agency who have instead sent him a warning letter.

It could spark accusations of two-tier justice after the watchdog previously insisted they “always prosecute”.

Mr Lammy was left red-faced after we revealed that he had taken the US Vice President on an illegal fishing trip.

The pair cast off at his Chevening estate earlier this month with their families but the Labour Minister had failed to buy a rod licence.

The debacle – during which he did not even catch a fish – saw him report himself to the Environment Agency who could have fined him up to £2,500.

But they have opted to go easy because Mr Lammy is an “inexperienced angler” and held his hands up.

The Environment Agency today said they rarely prosecute first-time breaches.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “The findings of the Environment Agency draw a line under this matter.

“Once it was clear that an administrative error had occurred, the Foreign Secretary contacted the agency in writing, allowing them to take appropriate measures and expressing gratitude for their efforts in safeguarding Britain’s fisheries.”

“He also bought the relevant rod licences to ensure there was no repeat of the situation in the future.”

An Environment Agency spokesperson added: “Everyone who goes fishing needs a licence to help improve our rivers, lakes and the sport anglers love.

“As Mr Lammy has confirmed, we have issued a warning letter for fishing without a licence, in line with our Enforcement and Sanctions policy.”
