D.C. Attorney General Tries to Come For Trump Over Ending Cashless Bail and It Doesn't Go Well

President Donald Trump has become frustrated with the crime situation in Washington, D.C., prompting him to implement a 30-day federalization of the local law enforcement in the nation’s capital.

On Monday, President Trump escalated his law and order initiative by signing an Executive Order to withdraw federal funding from areas with “cashless bail” policies, as reported by my RedState colleague Ward Clark.

This decision follows the significant success the administration has experienced in reducing crime in D.C. over the past two weeks since the implementation of the police takeover.

So, it should come as a surprise to no one that the usual players on the left are now attacking Trump for getting rid of the leftist woke policy.

“Pre-trial detention should be determined by whether someone poses a flight risk or a danger to the public — not their financial capacity for bail,” D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb expressed in a post on X. “Cash bail results in a two-tiered justice system, keeping poorer individuals incarcerated simply because they lack the funds for bail.”

“This Executive Order neglects effective, data-driven policies purely for political objectives — a cause for concern among all Americans,” he continued.

In response, the D.C. Police Union hit back, putting Schwalb’s record of releasing criminals into the spotlight.

“You have let out every juvenile that has committed a heinous, violent crime going back to the day you were elected,” the post on X from the union read. “Maybe you should sit the next few plays out.”

Following Trump’s announcement earlier this month of the takeover of law enforcement, the D.C. Police Union showed its support for Trump’s actions as well.

Union Chairman Gregg Pemberton said that immediate action was needed to turn things around, as RedState reported.

In a scathing Washington Post Op-Ed later, Pemberton said Democrat leaders’ anti-police agenda is how things got so out of control in the city, RedState reported.

Pemberton wrote that D.C. council members put “wrongheaded ideology” over the safety of those living, working, and visiting D.C.

“Thank the D.C. Council for Trump’s takeover of policing in the city: The federal intervention was a needed step. The question is what comes next,” the headline read, making it clear it was a necessary step, but in no way will it be enough to turn things around.

“In my role representing more than 3,000 officers, detectives, and sergeants, I support the federal intervention as a critical stopgap,” Pemberton wrote. “Already, we’re seeing positive results. Crime is down a tick. But let’s be clear: Federal control is not a long-term solution. Moreover, it would not have been needed but for the misguided ‘reform’ agenda of the D.C. Council.”
