A home explosion outside of St. Louis, Missouri damaged more than 20 properties and reportedly left an 18-year-old with life-threatening injuries.

The St. Louis County Police Department reported that a blast in a neighborhood in the northern part of the county on Monday morning injured at least three people.

Black Jack Fire Department Chief Paul Peebles remarked, “There’s extensive damage in these homes, people will not be able to go back in there,” as he noted that five of the homes were on fire. “It’s just too dangerous at this time.”

Footage taken from the scene showed two homes leveled as firefighters doused water on their smoldering remains.

State Senator Angela Mosley said to reporters Monday that she felt the explosion in her own home multiple miles away from the scene.

One resident shared, “I do live five miles away from here. I heard the explosion, felt the explosion, and things in my house did fall. I thought it was a tree that fell, but unfortunately, it was an explosion and thank God that nobody lost their life.”

Authorities stated that the St. Louis Regional Bomb and Arson Unit, along with the Blackjack Fire Protection District, were present on Monday to evaluate the damage and determine the cause of the explosion.
