A 49-year-old man from Indiana is set to spend numerous years behind bars for the murder of his wife. He fatally shot the 47-year-old woman inside a car at a cemetery last year.

Last week, a jury in Madison County convicted Jeremy Hinson on a murder charge and a felony firearm enhancement for the 2024 killing of Michela Hinson, according to authorities.

On Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at around 3 p.m., deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report about a “suspicious vehicle” at the Forrestville Cemetery located on the 1600 block of South North Street, as reported by Indianapolis NBC affiliate WTHR. This cemetery is approximately 65 miles northeast of Indianapolis.

The report indicated that a 911 caller informed the sheriff’s dispatcher about spotting a dark-colored SUV with two individuals inside, an adult man and an adult woman, parked near the back of the cemetery lot. The caller approached and knocked on the window, but neither occupant responded.

When first responders arrived, they discovered Michela Hinson in the driver’s seat, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds to her chest and stomach.

Authorities reported that Jeremy Hinson was initially unresponsive but eventually regained consciousness and exited the vehicle. A search of Hinson revealed a handgun tucked into his waistband before he was taken to Community Hospital Anderson for what was believed to be a drug overdose, as stated by the local Anderson newspaper, The Herald Bulletin.

While at the hospital, authorities said they observed blood spatter on Jeremy Hinson’s face, arms, hands, and feet.

Authorities executed a search warrant on Jeremy Hinson’s vehicle, where they discovered five bullet holes in the cushion of the driver’s seat where the victim was found. Five bullet casings were also found inside the vehicle, along with a loaded 9 mm handgun and a second magazine.

Indianapolis FM radio station WIBC reported that Michela Hinson was a mother of two boys, and she worked as a school bus driver for the City of Anderson Transit System.

During Jeremy Hinson’s subsequent incarceration, he reportedly confessed to killing his wife during a recorded conversation with a family member.

“I feel most bad for the boys in this situation,” Jeremy Hinson reportedly said. “Obviously I wasn’t thinking right. I don’t know what happened to make me do that, but tell them I love them.”

Jeremy Hinson is currently scheduled to appear in court for his sentencing hearing in September. He faces a sentence of 50 to 65 years in a state correctional facility.
